Lots of people are making money on the internet these days through affiliate marketing - and it can be very effective if you take the time to learn search engine optimization both onpage and off page. For the beginner this is going to be kind of hard because when you are just starting out you are not going to want to put the work into making money on the internet because you are seeing all of these ads that will guarantee you will be making 5 grand a month by only working 5 hours a week - this is not going to happen - the only thing you are doing is being suckered into a product - that the owner is making money off of you.

There are also tons of other scripts that are out there that are aimed towards affiliate marketing - also you must make sure that you get signed up with a trustworthy affiliate. Some of the big ones that are out there are adsense and Chitika - eBay and Amazon, along with Clickbank and Commission Junction. On top of those there are hundreds more. My advice for the beginner is do not think that you are going to make thousands right away, depending on how much time you put into making money on the internet - it could take years until you have a steady stream of income coming your way. You can expect to put in a lot of work the first 6 months and see nothing in return.

This is normal as you must understand that links take time to show up and count. The best thing that you can do is build sites - get a couple hundred or thousand links - and move on to the next site. Diversity is the key when making money on the internet - as you should never rely on just one affiliate to put food on the table - as you could get dumped by them - then you will have nothing. If you have a handful of affiliates that you are making money off of then the odds of you failing greatly decrease. Good luck future internet marketer.

Article Directories - Do you like to write? Even if you dont you will have to. This is what you do, siply write an article that is about 400-700 words, then just simply submit it to the article directory. If you need to find an article directory, just simply do a search and thousands will appear. Some of the best article directory are Ezine articles and Goarticles. See when you write an article you are able to leave a backlink to your site in the resource box, and some article directories will let you leave a backlink in the body of the article. Make sure that you anchor the keywords that you are targeting though. As well there are always free website directories too that you can get link juice from.

Website Directories - These are websites that hold links by category to other websites. Some of these directories are niche related while others display a wide range of catergories. The big ones that will help your website are Dmoz and Yahoo directories.

Press Release Sites - This is simply where you announce your site, and you get a backlink pointing back to your site, not the best links, but hey every link counts.

Commenting On Blogs - This is a highly effective way to get backlinks and to increase your pagerank if it is done right. Depending on what search engine you want to rank for will determine how much work will need to be done, if you are trying to rank in yahoo or msn, you do not need to pay attention to the nofollow tag, google on the other hand you will. The more relevant the post is to the keyword you are trying to rank for the better, also the better the pagerank of the page where your link is the more authority you will get for the keyword you anchor. If you need to find blogs that are follow, then do a search for do-follow divers, that is a search engine that finds blogs that are against the “nofollow” tag.

Social Sites - Easy way to get links back to your site. Some of the big ones that allow do-follow back links are Mister Wong and Propeller. There are also hundreds of pligg and scuttle sites that will allow you to submit a story to along with a backlink to your site.

Of course there are other ways that links can be obtained but I will not be going over them as they are frowned upon by many search engines and the last thing I want to do is get someone in trouble, because they do not know what they are doing and get their websites banned from search engines.

If a search engine is crawling a site it also visits the links that are on that site, (for most search engines, some search engines will not follow if teh link has a nofollow tag on it) and that will give your site more relavancy for your keyword, if the keyword is anchored. If you are lost then I can explain.

Let us say the name of your business is Johns Club Shop, and your url is www.johnsclubshop.com, and if someone links to you with the url, you are only getting authority for that domanin name, which no one is going to search for, and you will have it anyway by default. Now if someone linked to you as “Johns Club Shop”, that will increase the brand name of the shop, not many people are going to search for that unless you are allready a well established business that has their brand name out there. Now if some linked to you using the anchor text “cheap golf clubs”, then that would give you relevancy and authority in the search engines for that exact keyword phrase, simple right?

So how do I go about getting these backlinks, well their is the google way, which states if you write quality content, then people will link to your site. As this may be true, who is to tell them what keyword to anchor your text as? Remember I talked about the importance of the url, now if your url is www.cheapgolfclubs.com, and many people are linking to you with the url, as many webmasters do, you will get authority for all of those keywords, because they are in the url amd people are linking the url, although the ideal anchor link would be “cheap golf clubs”.

It is also a big importance as to where these links are coming from, as the importance, or authority of the page. The authority is roughly measured by incoming links and the quality of incoming links, and the age when it comes to most search engines.

Onsite Optimization - This consists of how a search engine spider or bot sees the content on your page. There are many factors that come into play, mainly the use of the keywords you are trying to target. The part of onsite optimization that plays the biggest role is the url itself, so when you are purchasing a new domain name make sure that it has at least one of the keywords you are trying to target. For example if you wanted to put your business on the web, and your store specialized in selling golf clubs, you would want the words “golf clubs” somewhere in the URL for maximum onsite seo. This is not necessary to rank high in the search engines, but it does help a lot.

The url plays a big role on how your site ranks for keywords because it is the first thing that the search engine spoder is going to see, from there it will look at the title tag of the site. They will be crawling and recording the keywords that are in teh H1 and other H tags going down the line. Another way to tell the search engine spider what your site is about is by bolding keywords. A bold or strong tag will work, but do not overdue it as if you are constantly stuffing and bolding your keywords on your page, you could get penalized by the search engine.

Another good practice of onsite optimization is to avoid duplicate content. Again, you can still rank very well using duplicate content, but if you have original content your site will be much more optimized when it comes to onsite search engine optimization.

Our job here is to get you ranked in these search engines for your specific keyword, or keywords that you want to be found by. The search engines I can make your business appear in are Google, Yahoo, and Msn, along with many others. But mainly we only care about the first three that were mentioned. Now there are thousands of search engines that are out there, why would you only want to be in those three might you ask? It is simple, because those are the search engines that control over 90% of search engine inquiry’s throughout the internet. Once you are recognized by the google search engine, the rest of the search engines will follow, trust me I have been doing search engine optimization for many years and have analyzed these kinds of statistics.

So how can your business’s website benefit from search engine optimization? Well for starts if you are a webmaster that is using google adwords or a similar Pay Per Click keyword, you may be thinking to yourself that the traffic is just not converting. Every time someone clicks on that as that you paid to have on the google search engine, you have to pay a small fee, sometimes a bigger one. This adds up quick, and Pay Per Click can be very hard to figure out. If you think you have the right person that is managing your pay per click, how much money are you actually making from it? In the long run, or almost immediatly this is the first thing webmasters turn too, they will hire someone to manage a pay per click campaign and it will fail miserably for them.

Well I am no master at pay per click and do not offer these types of services, what I do offer is search engine placement in google, yahoo and msn. When I say placement I mean that I will get you on the first page of google for the keyword that you are targeting. This can be a big thing or it can be a miss. Being on page one of google can drive you hundreds if not thousans of visitors a day, it all depends on what your business is about. When it comes to businesses with a couple hundred miles of the Tampa Bay area I can almost guarentee you a spot on the first page of google.

“But I see all of these other sites guarenteeing me number one on google for any keyword I want!”

This is not realistic, it can happen but it will not last. Search engines like google and yahoo know these cheap methods, and they figure them out and then ban your site. There is no way to get a site to the top of a search engine than hard honest dedicated work. I know this because I have been doing this since the internet has existed. I do not guarentee a the top spot in google but it is well in our range, I will guarentee you will be on the first page of google though. I know this from years of trial and error in search engine optimization, especially in the Tampa Bay area.
